Keeping Your Trees Healthy

After we moved into a new home, I realized that the trees out front needed some serious attention. They were overgrown, tired-looking, and a little dangerous, so I started working with professional arborists to have them trimmed. It was a lot of work, but before we knew it, things had really improved. By the time they were finished pruning the branches, the trees didn't block the view of our home and we really felt like they would bloom better in the spring. Check out this blog for more information that could help you to keep your trees happy and healthy.

Reasons When Tree Removal Becomes Urgent

Trees are an asset to your property because they provide shade and improve the aesthetics. The downside of trees is they can become a danger and cause property damage or loss of life. There are several situations when tree removal becomes an urgent matter.

Downed Trees

Not all downed trees are an urgent matter, but you will want to remove them as soon as possible. The most common urgent removal comes when a tree falls on your home or car, or prevents you from entering or exiting the home. Common reasons for downed trees are weather-related, such as high winds that can come with severe thunderstorms, hurricanes, and tornados. Another urgent matter is when a tree takes down a power line. Stay as far away from the power line as possible and do not touch anything that may be touching the power line, such as a vehicle. You will need to call the local power company so they can fix the line before it is safe to have the tree removed.

Preventative Removal

Regardless of where you live, there can always be weather-related phenomena that cause a tree to fall or otherwise need to be removed. People living in areas prone to severe weather may want to avoid having large trees on their property as a preventative measure. Not only do you have to consider your safety and potential damage to your property, but you also need to be mindful of how a tree could impact your neighbors and you may be at fault if it occurs. People living in areas where tornados are a common occurrence or those living on coastlines where hurricanes are a likely threat may want to have their trees removed promptly. Another issue is if your area seems to be getting substantial amounts of rain. Too much rain can make the soil loose and a simple gust of wind may cause the tree to become uprooted. In extremely dry areas, trees may become a fire hazard because of lightning or wildfires and should be removed.

Dead Or Damaged Trees

You should check the trees on your property regularly for signs the tree is dead, sick, or damaged. Ideally, you should have an arborist visit the property so they can make a proper assessment of the trees and their current health. Dead and rotting trees are a significant threat and may easily fall over or break apart. Sometimes trees suffer significant damage from a vehicle accident or a lightning strike that can make the tree unstable and need prompt removal. Even a fairly healthy tree may have large branches that are damaged and have become a danger. Many people find removing large trees and replacing them with small decorative or fruit trees gives them peace of mind.

There are many situations when tree removal becomes urgent. Ideally, you will take a proactive approach and regularly survey your property to determine if a tree might be a hazard.
